| You can see photos of each cake projects (12 novelty wedding cake designs plus assorted minicakes) included in this book in the author's website. Debbie is the best known novelty cake designer in the world, whose designs have inspired every professional cake maker to date and here, she is at her usual standard with a great selection of novelty designs. Even if I wouldn't personally have any of these cakes for my wedding, I still think this is a wonderful book, very original and full of ideas for weddings and other celebration cakes. Even if you do not use this as a wedding cake book, it provides great inspiration for toppers, and other fun novelty cakes. It has been put together thoughtfully so that each of the 12 projects completely differ in type and skills used. All projects are sugarpaste projects, and include a pastillage church cake, bride and groom models, carved hat and box cakes, mice models, cars, aircraft, stacked tiers, separate tiers, indian Buddha type figure, musical notes, doll cake, figurines, minicakes, etc. Instructions are clear and detailed, and include cake recipes and comprehensive equipment and ingredient lists as most books do. As still fairly new to the craft, I like Debbie's designs because they are achievable and stretch you just the right amount to teach you a lot each time you complete one of her cakes, whether you are a novice or not, and they are plain enough in a way so that you can adapt the design to your liking. There is also always a good variety of techniques used and those are always transferable to other novelty cakes (e.g. birthday cakes in particular). One important point is that she does use a minimum of equipment rather than dozens of cutters and all sorts of icings, so there is no frustration at missing the right stencil or cutter. She tends to use sugarpaste, CMC, a drop of royal icing here and there, and simple blossom cutters for flowers. I have done courses with Debbie last year(one from this book) and she is a very helpful teacher with much talent and no ego and this is reflected in her books. Highly recommended if you like modelling and cake carving in particular, novice and seasoned cake makers alike. 2 criticisms I will make is that first the book printing is such that the font and colour are bit difficult to read (a bit small and grey) and that it is missing some step by step pictures and as such can be a bit light on explanations (like most books... I find) |

I am a keen cake decorator and baker and recently have had problem with a maderia recipe for a 10" tin. I saw this book and thought it looked lovely and innovative and that it also had recipes in it. However the recipes are awful and I am very disappointed with the fact that this is supposedly from an author who demonstrates and gives classes and write books etc etc. Its such a waste of money.

| A beautifully illustrated book with wonderfully 'different' styles of cakes to make to celebrate special occasions. Need to know a bit about cake decorating in this style and I think more step by step illustrations needed but I still LOVE it! |
